OK 'all....what happened to common courtesy? When did people stop responding when other people talk. My new pet peeve is when, for instance, i am at a drive up window, the clerk hands me my beverage and i say (as my mommy taught me) Thank You. Her reply..........**chirp chirp** (can you hear the crickets?) Followed by the conclusion of our transaction I say "Have a nice day" Response "____________________"
Is it just me or have we as a society forgotten how to interact with people?

I think maybe the world succeeded too well at teaching the children not to talk to strangers. We forgot to teach common courtesy, as well.
Good post, hon.
You know I have noticed the same thing. Are people so rude to each other, that when courtesy is shown, no one knows how to act?
Great post!!!
Ma'am,
You are the first person I have heard comment on that, but you're right. Being on the road and all over the country as a truck driver, I started noticing that happening here and there, and then it just swept over the country in the summer and fall of 2004. It was young people doing it at first, the "have a nice day" routine, and I thought, Hmmm, where I grew up you thanked people for their patronage if you wanted them to come back (because you knew the customers paid your salary) but then I thought, well, young person, minimum wage, expected to cashier, sweep the floor, put new hot dogs on the rollers, clean the restrooms, and then I come in and make their miserable life a little more miserable. Still, there's such a thing as manners. But then older people started doing it too. Some of them even seemed relieved not to have to thank you. Especially some of those small business owner types who just want you to hand over your money then get the hell out of there because they have what they want, your money. Part of it comes from big business, I think. Notice how hard it is to get service anymore? You call a big company and they send you off on the phone loop. Service just cuts into their profit, and they have discovered all kinds of ways not to give you any.
But yes, it's widespread now, unfortunately. Sometimes they just hand you your change and don't say anything. But there are a few holdouts. Some people just can't not have good manners. I'd like to meet those peoples' parents and thank them.
Anyway, like I say, you are the first person I've heard talk about this. It's like no one notices such things. But being the first, you got my whole spiel. Sorry about that.
This is assuming you even see this comment. Your post was some time ago. I just surf a few blogs once in awhile because I became curious about this blogging phenomenon, about what it means, why people do it and so forth, and I saw yours and saw your title and I thought, Oh good, someone who is creative, and I made it down to this post.
I hope everything is going well.

Ma'am,
Geez, I don't know what happened there. A glitch perhaps. It didn't go through at first, it said my comment was too long (so either they had bad manners or I did), and then I hit the back button and I think it just sent it again, I think.
But no, I did not expect you to read it twice in order to improve comprehension.
With My Regards,
Frank
